Education and training

2023- ReFocusMethod with Tony Grahn.
Getting out of your head and into the present.

The most important thing for an actor or singer is to portray the truth, to move with the truth, to deliver a text as true. To get there, the actor needs to be able let go of self-judgments, personal tensions, to find something beyond control. The actor’s instrument is the body, the muscles that create movement, big movements, small ones, like in the face – tension and relaxation. The five senses also inhabit the body. With the help of these senses and our instinctive thinking, we can direct focus, place attention to something specific, and thus become present and become “the truth”, move with truth and deliver text as the truth. From this, energy, emotions and text will flow without thinking.

“It is the antidote to any acting training that binds the actor in a knot of thoughts. It clears all that away and is ultimately a practice that empowers the individual and encourages us to trust ourselves once more”.

2020- Workshop Scene Study with short Play Performance, acting for the camera (as a guest actor)

Classes review the essential camera-technique concepts, then leap briskly into camera exercises designed to get the actor familiar with the technical challenges of on-camera performance.
Actors are assigned monologues and scenes in advance, and structured, rapid-fire improvisations that ask the actor to work on the primacy of impulse, and instinct.

2019- MasterClass 'ReFocusMethod'

The method is a systematic approach for developing a “sixth sense” of identifying and letting go of tension in the body and becoming aware where focus shall be directed. It enables the actor to create a strong and believable performance within a remarkably short preparation period.

2018- Workshop 'MEISNER TECHNIQUE' truthfulness in acting and listening.

The technique is based on a series of progressively complex exercises to develop an ability to first improvise, then to access an emotional life and finally to bring the spontaneity of improvisation and the richeness of personal responseto textual work. The technique is used to develop improvisation skills as well as 'interpreting a script' and creating the specific physical characteristics of each character the actor plays.

2018- Workshop 'MEISNER TECHNIQUE' truthfulness in acting and listening.

The technique is based in truth, Meisner said 'Acting is the ability to live truthfully under given imaginary circumstances'

In the 1930s, Sanford Meisner was an actor in the group theater, the most important repertory theater in modern American history, which spawned the Major American acting teachers and several of the most important playwrights and directors of the 20th century. Meisner and his fellow actor Stella Adler fell out with their director Lee Strasberg over his use of emotional recall, a technique in which the actor used personal emotion from his own past memories to feed the acting process. Meisnerand Adler chose to use imagination to stimulate emotion and involvement in a play’s imaginary circumstances. Both Strasberg’s and Meisner and Adler’s techniques came out of the work of Konstantin Stanislavski in Russia, but they differed on which parts of his work was most important to the actor’s work and training. The group theater broke up partially because of the conflict over these techniques. Meisner, Adler and Strasberg all went on to become acting teachers who had a profound influence on American acting and culture, as well as a strong influence on European acting.
